The Minnesota man is charged with plotting to kill four people in a country where he's reportedly invested millions in tourism and development.According to news reports out of Belize, one of the people on Paumen's so called “hit list” is Iranian-American named Michael Modiri.
According to PlusTV out of Belize, Paumen and Modiri allegedly have a contentious history and Modiri owns land Paumen wants for his successful tourism business Dark Knight Cave Adventures. Specifically, the issue is with a road that goes through Modiri's property -- Paumen has long fought for rights to the land because it leads to his cave system.
Authorities have also arrested two of Paumen's employees this week, claiming Paumen had paid them several thousands to carry out the murders.
Paumen is out on $50,000 bail, but is required to stay in Belize as he awaits trial.
